Ghibtat al-Nazir fi Tarjamat al-Shaykh Abd al-Qadir

This volume brings together between its covers two gems from the treasures of the Islamic scholarly heritage, combining the pen of the critical ḥadīth master with that of the accomplished jurist. Both drew abundantly upon their knowledge and eloquence in writing the biography of the great saint, Sayyid ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī, may Allah be pleased with him.

The first is Ghibṭat al-Nāẓir fī Tarjamat al-Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir by the ḥadīth master Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī. It is a concise work in which he combines critical ḥadīth scholarship with historical precision, imbuing its pages with a spirit of fairness and appreciation. He thus portrays Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir as a scholar and spiritual educator, and as a saint who combined spiritual reality with the Sacred Law.

The second is Nuzhat al-Khāṭir al-Fātir fī Tarjamat al-Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir by the jurist and ḥadīth scholar Mullā ʿAlī al-Qārī. In it, he gathers the scattered accounts of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir’s virtues and life, and relates some of his miracles and admonitions that soften the hearts, all presented with excellent arrangement and clarity.

By bringing these two works together in a single volume, a vivid portrait emerges for the reader of Sayyid ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī as a spiritually realised guide and educator: a towering figure of sainthood, one who combined knowledge with practice, a master of spiritual training and guidance, and a renewer on the path of those journeying towards Allah Most High.
