Recently, considerable debate has arisen in Islamic daʿwah circles concerning the creed of one of the great Imams of Islam, an eminent scholar whose distinguished status is universally acknowledged by the vast majority of Muslims in general and by the Shāfiʿīs in particular.

There is scarcely a public or private library—and indeed scarcely a Muslim home—that does not contain some of his works. He is none other than the devout Imam, Shaykh al-Islām wa al-Muslimīn, Muḥyī al-Dīn al-Nawawī, may Allah Most High have mercy on him, author of the widely circulated works Al-Arbaʿīn al-Nawawiyyah, Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, and Al-Adhkār.

A debate took place between two men concerning Imam al-Nawawī’s creed, during which one of them went so far as to declare the Imam an unbeliever, an innovator, and misguided!

As a result, our author, Dr. ʿAbd al-Ilāh al-ʿArfaj, may Allah Most High preserve him, recorded sixteen episodes which he published on his video channel on the internet. He subsequently decided to compile this material and add a final episode, resulting in this book entitled Al-Intiṣār li-l-Imām al-Nawawī wa-Manhajihi al-ʿAqadī." (From the publisher’s description)

كثر الجدل مؤخَّرًا على الساحة الدعوية في عقيدة إمام من أئمة الإسلام، وعلم من الأعلام، متفقٍ على جلالته عند جماهير المسلمين عامة، وعند السادة الشافعية خاصة، فلا تكاد مكتبة عامة أو خاصة، بل لا يكاد بيت من بيوت المسلمين يخلو من كتبه، ألا وهو الإمام الرباني شيخ الإسلام والمسلمين محيي الدين النووي رحمه الله تعالى، صاحب الكتب السيّارة: «الأربعين النووية» و«رياض الصالحين» و«الأذكار».
فقد حصلت مناظرة بين رجلين في عقيدة الإمام النووي، ووقع أحد الرجلين في تكفير الإمام وتبديعه وتضليله!
فكان من جرّاء ذلك أن سجّل مؤلفنا د. عبد الإله العرفج حفظه الله تعالى 16 حلقة نشرها على قناته المرئية على الشبكة العنكبوتية، ثم بدا له أن يجمع هذه المادة ويضيف إليها حلقة أخيرة فكان هذا الكتاب الموسوم بـ«الانتصار للإمام النووي ومنهجه العقدي».
