Izz al-Din ibn Abd al-Salam

The author discusses in this book the life of the Sultan of the Scholars, al-ʿIzz ibn ʿAbd al-Salām: his upbringing, his teachers in the pursuit of knowledge, his students, his writings, the characteristics of his authorship, and his work in teaching, issuing fatwas and the judiciary, eloquence and rhetoric, and the fields of education and literature, Sufism, scrupulousness and piety.

This Shaykh was thus a towering school in understanding the objectives of the Sharīʿah in accordance with benefits and harms, which contributed to the revival of the Ummah.

The author also discusses his concern with taking on the leadership of the Ummah during a critical period, namely the Ninth Crusade, which targeted the Land of Kinānah—Egypt. He mobilised forces and advised the scholars to be sincere to Allah in their outward and inward states; and in this is a lesson for the Ummah in every time and place.
