al-'Ibar fi Khabar man Ghabar ma'a al-Dhuyul

This relatively unknown work is Allamah Dhahabi's shorter work on tarikh, abridged from his detailed Tarikh al-Islam, with additions not found in it. The original book covers from the Hijrah until the year 700. This edition includes the dhayl of the author which covers from 701 until 740, as well as the dhayl of al-Husayni which covers from 741 until 764AH.

Perfect for those wanting to have an idea of the major occurrences in each year. It is arranged by year and mentions the major incidents that occurred as well as personalities that passed away.

الحافظ الذهبي مؤرخ الإسلام العالمي الموسوعي، صنف في علم الجرح والتعديل، وتراجم الأعلام المحدثين، والتاريخ وغيرها . وكان يصنف في العلم الواحد أكثر من كتاب، فمن كتبه في التاريخ كتاب " العبر " رتبه على السنوات من السنة الأولى للهجرة إلى سنة 764 هجريا . فيبدأ بذكر أحداث السنة المذكورة ثم يذكر من مات فيها من الأعلام مترجما له بإيجاز مركزا على من كان محدثا منهم على شيوخه الذين روى عنهم، ذاكرا قول علماء الجرح والتعديل فيه أحيانا ألحق المحقق بكل مجلد فهرس السنوات وجعل في آخره فهرسا للأعلام
