al-Jawahir al-Muqni'ah fi Ba'd Fadl Uli al-Madhahib al-Arba'ah al-Muttaba'ah

This book is one of the works of the eminent Imam and ḥadīth scholar Muḥammad ʿAlī ibn ʿAllān al-Ṣiddīqī al-Makkī (d. 1057 AH) being published for the first time. Imam Ibn ʿAllān devoted it to the virtues and merits of the four mujtahid Imams and jurists: Abū Ḥanīfah, Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī, and Aḥmad, the founders of the four followed schools of Islamic jurisprudence.

Ibn ʿAllān was the pride of the scholars of Makkah and the last of its great Qurʾānic exegetes. He was also among those rare scholars of Makkah whom Allah Most High blessed with remarkable productivity in authorship, to such an extent that, because of the abundance of his works, he was compared to Imam Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī!

This concise work introduces each of the four mujtahid Imams, covering his lineage, birth, and upbringing, together with selections from the praise bestowed upon him by scholars, accounts from his life and biography, his most important writings, and finally his death—may Allah be pleased with him and with them all.
