Sharh Hadith La Tazalu Ta'ifatun min Ummati

A focused scholarly study by Prof. Dr. Ibrāhīm ʿAbd Allāh Salqīnī devoted to the celebrated Prophetic ḥadīth concerning the enduring group within the Muslim Ummah that will remain manifest upon the truth. The work originated as a peer-reviewed academic paper published in al-Aḥmadiyyah journal in 1425 AH / 2004 CE, before subsequently being issued independently in book form.

Rather than offering only a brief explanation of the ḥadīth, Salqīnī undertakes a ḥadīth-based analytical study of it from several perspectives. He first examines its various chains and routes of transmission and considers its status in terms of acceptance and certainty. He then gathers and compares the different wordings in which the ḥadīth has been transmitted, before proceeding to explain its individual expressions and the implications of their differing formulations.

A central part of the study is devoted to determining what the Prophet ﷺ intended by the “ṭāʾifah” that remains upon the truth. The author examines the meanings of such expressions as their remaining ẓāhirīn ʿalā al-ḥaqq, and seeks to remove confusion that can arise when this narration is read alongside other related aḥādīth. His concern is therefore both textual and interpretative: establishing what the transmitted versions actually say before determining the meaning and purpose of the Prophetic promise.

The author's method is consciously rooted in that of the major classical commentators on Ḥadīth, drawing upon their practices of collecting relevant transmissions, comparing evidence, deriving conclusions and exercising tarjīḥ between competing interpretations. The book is organised around four principal sections: the routes of transmission (ṭuruq al-ḥadīth), its variant wordings, a detailed explanation of the ḥadīth, and a conclusion. The author cites 36 references, despite the study's relatively compact size.

The work is consequently useful for readers interested not only in the specific question of the Ṭāʾifah Manṣūrah, but also in seeing how a single famous ḥadīth may be subjected to concentrated study through takhrīj, comparison of variant narrations, lexical explanation and interpretative analysis.
