Mahajjat al-Salikin

The book Maḥajjat al-Sālikīn, by the Muḥammadan inheritor Shaykh Muḥammad Abū al-Hudā al-Ṣayyādī al-Rifāʿī al-Ḥusaynī, is regarded as an important work on Sufism. It contains beneficial and engaging discussions for those interested in studying, practising, and following the methodology of scholarly Sufism.

In the first chapter, the author—may Allah be pleased with him—discusses what those travelling the spiritual path must believe and how they should conduct themselves towards Allah. He devotes the second chapter to love of the Prophet ﷺ, his descendants and noble Companions, as well as obedience to his great successors in Islam, love for them, and uniting the hearts of the Ummah around them. The third chapter explains virtuous character traits and successful deeds. The book concludes with a section containing a number of profound maxims transmitted from prominent figures among the righteous early generations.

The editor, Professor and lawyer Muḥammad Nāʾil Abū al-Hudā al-Ṣayyādī, the author’s grandson, devoted considerable effort and time to critically editing the work after it had been preserved in manuscript form at Princeton University in the United States, so that every student and reader might benefit from it.

إن كتاب محجة السالكين للوارث المحمدي الشيخ محمد أبو الهدى الصيادي الرفاعي الحسيني يعتبر من كتب التصوف الهامة، وقد تضمن أبحاثا نافعة وممتعة لمن يهتم بدراسة وسلوك واتباع منهج التصوف العلمي.فعرض المؤلف رضي الله عنه في بابه الأول لما يجب أن يعتقده السالكون ويعاملون الله به. وخصص بابه الثاني في محبّة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وذريته وأصحابه الكرام وطاعة خلفائه العظام في الإسلام ومحبتهم وجمع قلوب الأمة عليهم. وجاء بابه الثالث في بيان الأخلاق الصّالحة والأعمال الناجحة. وتمم الكتاب بخاتمةٍ ذكر فيها بعض الحكم الجليلة المأخوذة عن أعيان السلف الصّالح.وقد بذل المحقق الأستاذ المحامي محمد نائل أبو الهدى الصيادي، حفيد المؤلف، الجهد والوقت في تحقيقه بعد أن كان محفوظاً كمخطوط في جامعة برينستون الأمريكية ليستفيد منه كل طالب وقارئ.
