"This is a reflective and spiritually oriented work exploring the feelings, emotions and inner responses of the believer when contemplating significant events of this world and the scenes of the Hereafter. The author was prompted by a recurring question that had occupied him since childhood: when reading Qurʾānic verses, aḥādīth and accounts of momentous events, what did the people who actually experienced these events feel at the time? What emotions filled their hearts in moments of joy, fear, hardship, wonder, expectation or relief?

Rather than presenting a systematic theoretical study of human emotion, the author gathers a selection of evocative examples from the Qurʾān, Sunnah, Sīrah and the lives of the righteous, seeking to imaginatively enter into these moments and draw out their īmānī and spiritual dimensions. His purpose is to awaken the reader’s heart, encourage reflection upon the emotional realities behind familiar religious narratives, and derive lessons in faith, character, spiritual cultivation and conduct.

The book begins with selected episodes from the life of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, considering the feelings that such extraordinary experiences may have stirred within him. Among them are the Prophet’s circumstances and emotions on the Day of Resurrection, his experience of the Isrāʾ and Miʿrāj, his leading the Prophets in prayer at al-Masjid al-Aqṣā, his ascent through the heavens and arrival at Sidrat al-Muntahā, and the tremendous signs of Allah which he witnessed. The author seeks to convey something of the awe and spiritual magnitude of these experiences rather than merely recounting their historical details.

He then turns to episodes involving earlier Prophets, considering their feelings at moments of trial, deliverance, joy and sorrow, and the lessons in spiritual training and guidance that may be extracted from them. Similar attention is given to scenes from the lives of the Ṣaḥābah, including the remarkable perseverance of Khadījah رضي الله عنها through hardship and struggle and the glad tidings brought to her by Jibrīl عليه السلام of a house in Paradise. The author subsequently draws examples from the lives of the great scholars and imams of the Muslim tradition, reflecting upon the emotions accompanying their deeds, trials and memorable experiences.

Other sections consider the feelings associated with acts of worship and righteous deeds, as well as experiences connected with marriage and family life. The work then moves from worldly events to the great realities of the Hereafter, reflecting upon death, the departure of the soul, the Day of Resurrection, Paradise and the condition of its inhabitants. In each case, the concern is not simply to describe what happens, but to encourage the reader to contemplate what these realities mean to the believing heart.

The author explains that the subject of human feeling is vast and cannot be comprehensively treated in a single volume. He has therefore deliberately selected representative scenes and reflections rather than attempting an exhaustive treatment. The examples generally highlight positive and spiritually uplifting emotions, though some painful and difficult situations are also considered, together with the question of what their participants may have experienced inwardly.

The result is an unusual work of īmānī reflection and spiritual contemplation, bringing together scriptural narratives, Prophetic biography, accounts of the Prophets, Ṣaḥābah and scholars, and scenes of the Hereafter in order to make the reader engage with them at the level of the heart. Its aim is to move these familiar accounts beyond the level of information alone, encouraging the reader to visualise, reflect, take admonition, derive lessons and cultivate a deeper emotional engagement with the realities of faith."
