The purpose of this study is not to stir up resentment, but rather to understand the relationship between Muslims and the West by examining the historical roots of Western hostility towards Islam—a hostility that has endured for centuries.

The time has come to call for the abandonment of animosity, to foster openness towards Muslims, and to make a genuine effort to understand Islam apart from the distorted stereotypes that Orientalism and the Western media have helped to create.

Accordingly, the facts must be presented with honesty, candour, and transparency, motivated by the desire to begin a new chapter in relations between Muslims and the West—one that can help both sides move beyond the present historical impasse.
