Dhakhirat al-'Uqba fi Sharh Sadr al-Shari'ah al-'Uzma: Hashiyah 'ala Sharh al-Wiqayah li-Akhi Chalabi

Sharh al-Wiqayah is a famous Hanafi work, taught in many madaris. The most popular classical hashiyah on the work is Dhakirat al-Uqba by Akhi Chalapi, an accepted work, that all subsequent commentaries relied on. Most of Ml Abd al-Hayy’s Umdat ar-Ri’ayah seems to be taken from this book, word for word.

It stands out for:
- Being to the point, avoiding long explanations found in other commentaries.
- Clearly explaining the text
- Providing sources for every point, to the extent that it includes thousands of quotes from hundreds of sources.

The only editions of the book available previously were very rare, old editions.
This is a new edition, edited using 2 manuscripts of the matn (Wiqayah), 5 of the sharh and 5 of the hashiyah (Dhakirah)!

The muhaqqiq
-then made takhrij of the thousands of nuqul in the book,
-added on the footnotes of the author found on some manuscripts,
-even added on beneficial footnotes from other hawashi like Umdat ar-Ri’ayah,
-also edited two makhtut risalah’s explaining a difficult passage in the book and added them to this edition,
-prepared a detailed dirasah, clarifying who the correct author of Wiqayah is,
-prepared a detailed study clearly showing the Mahbubi family tree, an issue that has always perplexed researchers,
-prepared a list of the sources, showing what is meant by each, as the author often quotes from books using obscure names.

This is a must for every Madrasah Library. This work will be of great benefit to anyone teaching or studying Sharh al-Wiqayah.
