Allamah Suyuti’s al-La’ali al-Masnu’ah is his detailed work on fabricated narrations. It is a treasure trove of difficult-to-find ahadith and asanid, with many of the books quoted not found today or very difficult to access. Checking the rijal of these asanid is normally a nightmare, as many of the narrators aren’t normally found in the major works, plus these asanid are often filled with typos.

The muhaqqiq, Sh Mahmud an-Nahhal, is well-known for his expertise in hadith and rijal and has made so many corrections to the names of the narrators, that on nearly every second page you will find him pointing out that while the name of a certain narrator is incorrect in all the manuscripts and most of the books the hadith is quoted in, however he has corrected it based on a certain source.

He used a number of valuable manuscripts, one filled with ta’liqat taken from a copy of Ibn al-Jawzi’s al-Mawdu’at that contained footnotes from master muhaddithin including Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani and other masters. These footnotes were all added to this edition.
Another manuscript he used represents the final copy of the book, with the additions to it making up nearly one more volume!

To really understand the effort put into this book and the expert editing, one would have to read the muhaqqiq’s dirasah.
