al-Hidayah fi al-Mantiq

al-Hidāyah, composed by the eminent Imām Athīr al-Dīn al-Abharī, is a classical primer on the three divisions of philosophy: logic, natural philosophy, and metaphysics. It has long been studied in traditional institutions devoted to the teaching of ḥikmah (philosophy), particularly in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, and was later adopted in Ottoman lands and, during certain periods, in the circles of al-Azhar. It was traditionally taught after the study of logic as the gateway to applying its principles, preparing students for the more advanced study of theology (ʿilm al-kalām).

Owing to the author's sincerity and scholarly excellence, al-Hidāyah achieved widespread acceptance and became the subject of numerous commentaries and glosses. In more recent times, scholars have attempted to simplify those aspects of the text that students found difficult in the standard commentaries of al-Maybudhī and Mullā Ṣadrā, together with their accompanying glosses.

Al-Abharī intended this work to serve as a bridge for the beginner in the study of philosophy, enabling students to understand the writings of the great masters, appreciate their scholarly differences, and progress to the foundational works of such authorities as Ibn Sīnā and Shihāb al-Dīn al-Suhrawardī, among other leading philosophers.

This edition has been carefully prepared by Dr. Muḥammad al-Muḥammadī and ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ Riḍā al-Azharī, who have sought to make the text more accessible through the use of diagrams, structured formatting, and other pedagogical aids, while preserving the integrity of this important instructional work.

وقد وفق الله الإمام أثير الدين الأبهري للإخلاص أثناء تصنيف هذا الكتاب؛ فكتب الله له الذيوع والشهرة والانتشار، وانكب العلماء على متن الهداية بشرحه وكتابة الحواشي عليه. وحاول بعض المعاصرين تأليف شروح حاولوا فيها تبسيط ما استصعبه الطلاب في شرحي الميبذي وملا صدرا المعتمدين في التدريس وفي حواشيهما.
وقد جعل الإمام أثير الدين الأبهري هذا الكتاب رابطةً للطالب المبتدئ في علم الحكمة؛ ليصل به إلي إمكانية فهم كلام كبار العلماء، والاطلاع المتبصر على الخلافات بينهم، والوقوف على أمهات الكتب وأدقها ككتب الشيخين: الشيخ الرئيس أبو علي بن سينا، والشيخ المقتول شهاب الدين السهروردي، وغيرهما من أرباب الحكمة.
وقد وفق الله سبحانه وتعالى فضيلة الدكتور/ محمد المحمدي ، والأخ المجتهد/ عبدالفتاح رضا الأزهري ، للعمل على هذا الكتاب وبذل الجهد فيه، ومحاولة تسهيل الكتاب من خلال طريقة عرضه بالرسومات والتفقيرات، وقد خُدِمَ هذا الكتاب الدرسي المتين بما يرضي الله تعالى أولًا وطلبة العلم ثانيًا.
