al-Khilafah al-Andalusiyyah

Discussing the caliphate in al-Andalus is different from discussing the history of al-Andalus. The caliphate there represents what the Umayyads undertook to raise the banner of Islam, whereas its history has numerous tributaries and many channels, including the rise and fall of petty states and the ascent and decline of individuals. The wheel of history in al-Andalus was like the aftershocks of earthquakes, with one impact following another. The author therefore wrote about the caliphate rather than its history, as a tribute to the era of the caliphate and an expression of sorrow over its fall between the jaws of strife and personal passions.

إن الحديث عن الخلافة في بلاد الأندلس يختلف عن تاريخ الأندلس فالخلافة فيها هي مانهض به الأمويون هناك لرفع راية الإسلام ، أما التاريخ فله روافد عديدة ومصبات كثيرة ، منها نهوض الدويلات وسقوطها ، وصعود الشخوص وهبوطها ، وعجلة التاريخ في الأندلس كانت كتوابع الزلازل لها التأثير تلو التأثير ، لذلك كتب المؤلف عن الخلافة وليس عن التاريخ تحية لعصر الخلافة وحسرة على سقوطها بين فكي الفتن والأهواء .
