This is a collection of 2 amazing books, by Allamah Taqi ad-Din al-Hisni, the author of the famous Kifayat al-Akhyar in Shafi’i Fiqh and other famous works.

The first book starts off with a hard-hitting set of chapters, addressing two groups:
-The Fuqaha/Ulama who talk big, but their lives are devoid of amal and
- The Sufis who act all pious in public, but their hearts are soaked in love of dunya.

While soft words and hikmat are normally more beneficial, there are times when what is really needed is some “kickmat” ie. a solid kick to wake us up and make us realise how far we have fared off the path!

If this is what you need, then you will find it in the first 100-odd pages of this book. Authored by one who walked the talk all his life, the author was an allamah and zahid famous for his emphasis on enjoining good and forbidding evil. It is clear that he is addressing you from his heart, in a manner that speaks directly to your heart. This portion of the book deserves to be printed seperately and studied by ulama.

The balance of the first volume and the entire second volume consists of a mukhtasar of Sifat as-Safwah, the book on tarajim of awliya. The author kept the main biographical info, the incidents and words of wisdom and left out the extras in each tarjamah. He often added fawaid from his side as well, making it a very interesting and beneficial read.

As for the second book, it is aimed at females. The major portion of it is tarajim of the female awliya over the centuries, abridged from Sifat as-Safwah. The last portion, covering nearly 150 pages, is devoted to islah of females, discussing various ills found in them and covering each in detail in the light of Quran and Hadith.

Both books are expertly-edited using multiple manuscripts, with takhrij of ahadith, anecdotes and statements.
