The Shaykh of the Mujāhidīn in the land of the Isrāʾ and Miʿrāj, home of the first of the two qiblahs, the third of the sacred sanctuaries, and a cherished part of the heart of the Islamic world.
His name became associated with the Istiqlāl Mosque in Haifa, which he made into a school that taught faith as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to his Companions, and taught them righteous and beneficial action, foremost among these deeds being jihād in the path of Allah Most High.
From among the poor and workers of Palestine, he produced blessed heroes and candles that illuminated the path for every sincere person seeking honour for his Ummah and homeland through the only path to it, as indicated by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him: “We are a people whom Allah has honoured through Islam, and whenever we seek honour through anything other than that by which Allah has honoured us, Allah will humiliate us.”
He was ʿIzz al-Dīn al-Qassām. He did not surpass the scholars of his age through breadth of knowledge or abundance of writings; rather, he surpassed them through the strength of his faith, the firmness of his resolve to save his Ummah, and his tireless striving to nurture a unique Qurʾānic generation that regarded the pleasure of Allah Most High as the ultimate object of its aspirations.
May Allah reward the author well for having comprehensively covered the life of al-Qassām and recorded in this book a radiant page from the illustrious history of Islamic jihād.
