Mawsuat al-Siyar

Mawsūʿat al-Siyar by Dr. ʿAlī Muḥammad al-Ṣallābī is an extensive ten-volume collection of Prophetic and Islamic biography, presenting the life of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and a selection of the most important leaders of early and medieval Islamic history. The Dār Ibn Kathīr edition comprises approximately 5,700 pages.

The collection begins with two substantial volumes on the Sīrah of the Prophet ﷺ, followed by individual volumes devoted to Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān, ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and finally Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn al-Ayyūbī.

Al-Ṣallābī’s approach is not confined to chronological narration. He combines the presentation of historical events with analysis of their causes, consequences and lessons, paying particular attention to questions of leadership, governance, reform, unity, conflict and the factors behind the rise and strengthening of Muslim society. His broader concern throughout the series is with the principles of revival, victory and empowerment (fiqh al-naṣr wa’l-tamkīn) that may be derived from the lives and experiences of these figures.
