The accepted practice amongst Ahl al-Ilm was that those who spent a large amount of time with their teachers were considered reliable sources of ilm. Mulazamah of Shuyukh was always considered integral to a person being an authority in any ilmi field.
Sadly, today we grant them a shahadah after attending lessons for a few years, with many of them not keeping any contact with ilm and ulama or ever visiting their teachers again.
This often results in them adopting strange and problematic views, which are then considered acceptable by their communities, as they are considered authorities in Din, due to a scrap of paper given to them by the institute they graduated from. This booklet discusses the need for students to keep a link with their alma mater and their teachers, discussing the various harms of them not keeping this link and even discusses safeguards and steps the institute could implement to ensure that their students don’t go off the track and how to address them when they have gone off.
And no, the author isn’t the Majlis or Wifaq! The author is a Saudi Alim. This is important, as our graduates need to hear this from someone outside our circles.
This book was printed in 2012. The author was arrested in 2017 and is amongst the many ulama languishing in Saudi Prisons. May Allah Ta’ala free them.
