One of the most important resources for an alim is a reliable and comprehensive book of hadith that contains the narrations one would need for bayans.
The best book, in my opinion, would be Imam Mundhiri's at-Targhib wa ‘t-Tarhib.

It features the tried and tested “carrot and stick” approach, giving both the rewards and punishments for each action.

The major benefit of this book to our ulama is that it contains a large number of hadith not found in the books of ahadith normally studied in Madrasah viz. al-Kutub as-Sittah, Mishkat and Riyad as-Salihin.

This results in it being a treasure trove of riwayat and the major resource for most ulama when preparing their bayans, however it does contain a number of problematic narrations.

While the author has attempted to point out possibly problematic narrations by narrating them with روي , there remain problematic narrations that aren’t pointed out.
Thus, the need for an edition of this book with good takhrij.

This edition, from Dar Ibn Kathir of Syria, is perfect in this regard.
The muhaqqiqin have given a simple one-word hukm on every hadith, making it really easy to tell if the narration is suitable for quoting. They then follow it up with detailed takhrij and kalam.

This edition was edited using three manuscripts, including one very special one.
Selections from the ta’liqat of Burhan ad-Din an-Naji (d.900ah) were also added to the footnotes. Sharh and fawaid were also added where required

It was then printed in 4 beautiful volumes, with headings, hukm on the ahadith etc in red and full tashkil of the ahadith. The result is a beautiful edition that you don’t want to put down once you pick it up!
