Dr Wahbah Zuhayli of Damascus is amongst the most famous Syrian Ulama of the recent past, well-known due for his works like al-Fiqh al-Islami wa Adillatuhu and at-Tafsir al-Munir.

I was fortunate to visit him in his home in Damascus, where he mentioned to us the strong link he had with our ulama of India and Pakistan, especially with Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani sahib.
When asked by some Syrian students to explain the difference between the Syrian system of ta’lim and the Dar Nizami, he was full of praise for the Dars Nizami, explaining how the teachers focus on explaining books in detail to their students.

His tafsir masterpiece, at-Tafsir al-Munir really stands out due to the manner in which he has arranged it.
He takes each set of ayat, gives a heading to the topic they cover, then discusses each of the following under a separate heading:
