Imam Shafi’i is widely-accepted as the first who authored a work on Usul al-Fiqh. This work is his famous ar-Risalah, which has been printed many times.

This edition however is different. This is a copy of a manuscript. But not just any manuscript, rather one of the oldest existing manuscripts.
It is a copy of the Risalah of Imam Shafi'i, written in his lifetime by his student ar-Rabi'.

This manuscript was stolen in 2002 from Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyyah and its whereabouts are presently unknown. Fortunately, a digital copy of it was preserved and is now available in book form.

Studying this manuscript would allow one to acquire a piece of our history, learn how to read difficult manuscripts and allow one to appreciate the efforts put in by the top muhaqqiqin who spend months and sometimes years editing each book.
This should encourage us to stay away from cheap pirated copies of books(musawwarat), that cause huge harm to these editors.
