al-Silk al-Muthanna al-Nazzam bima lil-Sahabah al-Kiram min al-Karamat wa-al-Mukarramat

The ḥadīth scholar and judge Abū Muḥammad Ibn al-Qaṭṭān al-Marrākushī (who was alive in 662 AH), son of the ḥadīth master Abū al-Ḥasan Ibn al-Qaṭṭān al-Fāsī, is regarded as one of the eminent scholars who carried the torch of authorship concerning the virtues and miraculous gifts of the Companions. This is represented by his present work entitled Al-Silk al-Muthannā al-Niẓām bimā lil-Ṣaḥābah al-Kirām ʿalā Jamīʿihim al-Riḍwān wa-l-Salām min al-Karāmāt wa-l-Makrumāt al-ʿIẓām. It is an important work on its subject, in which the author extensively discusses the miraculous gifts and virtues of the Companions.

The importance of Al-Silk al-Muthannā al-Niẓām is evident from the following:

First: It represents an example of the contributions of Maghribī scholars to writing about and defending the noble Companions.

Second: It is a work that embodies the influence of the Maghribī scholarly tradition in writing about the Prophetic biography and the history of the Companions.

Third: The scholarly standing of Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Malik Ibn al-Qaṭṭān, who enjoyed a position of favour in the state of the Āl ʿAbd al-Muʾmin.

Fourth: The book provides a clear picture of the coordination of efforts between scholars, represented by Abū Muḥammad Ibn al-Qaṭṭān, and the Almohad rulers, represented by the Almohad Caliph al-Murtaḍā, in defending the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, and responding to those who disparaged them.
