He then concluded the book with detailed indexes.

من طالع المصادر التاريخية وكتب التراجم وجد لعلماء الإسلام الأعلام جهدًا عظيمًا في تأليف الكتب، وتقرير العلوم، وبسط المسائل. ومن توسَّع في البحث والنظر طال تعجُّبه من عدد مجلَّدات بعض تلك الكتب النفيسة، التي فاقت الثلاثين مجلدًا، بل بلغ بعضها مئات المجلَّدات. وقد تتبَّع مؤلِّف هذا الكتاب تلك الكتب الطوال التي بلغت ثلاثين مجلدًا فأكثر، من خلال مطالعته لمئات كتب التراجم والتاريخ وغيرها، ورتَّبها على تواريخ وفيات مؤلِّفيها، ووضع ترجمة تعريفية مختصَرة لمؤلِّف كل كتاب، ووثّق عدد المجلدات ومحتواها بكلام العلماء المؤرِّخين، ثم ختم كتابه بفهارس كاشفة. وهذا الكتاب إسهامةٌ جادّة في تاريخ التأليف وأنماطه لدى المسلمين، يكشف لنا جانبًا مهمًّا من قدرة علماء الإسلام على تأليف الكتب الموسوعية والدواوين المطوَّلة، وما كانوا يتحلَّون به من اتساع دائرة معارفهم وصبرهم الكبير على التتبُّع والاستقراء والحرص على الإحاطة، مع عمق التحليل ودقة المعلومة.
