Imam Nawawi’s magnum opus, al-Majmu’, is an amazing work and if completed, would have been counted amongst the greatest books ever authored.

It has everything one would require in a sharh of a fiqh work: Explanation of the matn, deep discussion into the mas’alah with the various views in the madhab, clear tarjih of the rajih, madhahib of the fuqaha, discussion into the ahadith on the topic with the strength of each, plus assorted fawaid.
All this in easy-to-understand flowing language.

Sadly, he never completed the book.
Imam Taqi ad-Din as-Subki’s takmilah also only covered a small portion, leaving most of the book incomplete.
Most prints of the book feature the takmilah of Muhammad Najib al-Muti’i (d. 1407 ah), however his takmilah has been severely criticised by the editors of this edition.
They prepared a detailed study in over 40 pages, showing the various issues with his takmilah, including him copying huge chunks of his takmilah from other sources with no reference to them, leaving out other chapters with no sharh at all, completely misunderstanding the matn, a huge number of errors including many which completely change the ruling etc.

The editors of this edition then prepared their own takmilah, attempting to follow the manhaj of Imam Nawawi, with full reference of every naql to its source.
They also edited the book using a manuscript, together with checking the sources of the various nuqul, which allowed them to correct numerous errors.
They added on detailed takhrij and footnotes and on a few chapters they even added on the sharh of al-Muhaddhab by Abu Amr al-Marani (d.602 ah).

This is a beautiful multi-coloured edition in 27 volumes.
