The Alfiyyah of Ibn Malik (d/672ah) is such a widely-accepted work that, in many circles, one couldn’t claim to have studied nahw without having studied this work.
While in Mauritania, memorisation of the 1000 lines of the Alfiyyah, plus 1000 plus lines of its takmilah (احمرار ابن بونا) and a few thousand lines of shawahid shi’riyyah are considered the minimum requirement for one to claim to have studied nahw!

From amongst the many shuruh authored on the Alfiyyah, Ibn Aqil’s (d.769ah) sharh stands out as being ideal for teaching, as he explains the lines of the alfiyyah in simple, clear, easy-to-understand language, mentions the madhahib of the classical nahwis as well as the muta’akhkhirin, gives multiple examples and brings shawahid shi’riyyah as well as important dawabit etc.

Multiple hawashi have thus been authored on it, with Suja’i’s (d.1197ah) Hashiyah being amongst the most important ones. It is brief, yet filled with tahqiq and benefit, but still easy to understand. He relied upon all the major, detailed shuruh of the Alfiyyah, as well as a huge number of nahw works. He pays special attention to mentioning the source when quoting.

This led to its widespread acceptance and a number of short taqrirat where then authored on it, with the most valuable and detailed being that of al-Anbabi (d.1313ah).

This print first gives you Alfiyyah Ibn Malik, then a muhaqqaq edition of Sharh Ibn Aqil. Then below it, a muhaqqaq edition of Hashiyah as-Suja’i and below this the Taqrirat of al-Anbabi’, while the footnotes include valuable fawaid and takhrij from the muhaqqiq.

The books of this publisher, Dar at-Taqwa of Syria, are known for being amongst the most beautiful and well-edited editions found on the market and this book is no exception, as the attached images would show.

Not only is this a beautiful, expertly-typeset, colourful edition, but it can also boast that every portion of it i.e. the sharh, the hashiyah and the taqrirat are all edited using multiple manuscripts.

In five thick volumes, this is a must for the personal collection of any aspiring nahwi.
