Authored by the eminent scholar and man of letters, Sayyid Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-Shāṭirī al-Shāfiʿī (d. 1422 AH).
The book Al-Yāqūt al-Nafīs fī Madhhab Ibn Idrīs, on the jurisprudence of the Shāfiʿī school, was written by the eminent scholar, man of letters and jurist, Sayyid Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-Shāṭirī. Many people throughout numerous Muslim lands have benefited from this book, and it has been printed repeatedly.
The author’s son, the eminent Sayyid Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-Shāṭirī, taught the book in various places and regions. Among these lessons was his class held every Friday evening at the home of the distinguished Sayyid Ṭāhā ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṭāhā al-Saqqāf in Jeddah. Numerous scholars, students of knowledge, and other listeners would attend these gatherings. The commentary of the eminent Ḥabīb Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad was delivered in an accessible language that could be understood equally by beginners and advanced students.
After the basmalah, praise of Allah, and supplication—asking Allah Most High for guidance towards what is correct, truthfulness in speech, and sincerity in action—he would begin his lesson by giving a brief introduction to the chapter he was about to explain, mentioning its benefits and the wisdom of Islam in legislating its rulings.
He would then proceed to explain the lesson from memory in his distinctive and eloquent manner, supporting the subject under discussion with passages from valuable reference works in order to complete the benefit and provide a fuller explanation of the topic. He would frequently embellish the lesson with anecdotes, literary subtleties, stories, and meaningful poetry, refreshing the spirits and renewing their determination and enthusiasm through material that was both beneficial and delightful. He would further adorn the discussion by mentioning contemporary issues and questions relevant to the realities of our time and relating the legal rulings to them, thereby sharpening minds, broadening the students’ horizons, deepening their thought, and connecting them with the realities they witnessed around them.
These beneficial lessons and gatherings were transcribed and transformed from audio recordings into the written words contained in this book by the Shaykh’s close student, the distinguished Sayyid Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir ibn Ḥusayn al-Saqqāf.
He then presented the material to its author, after adding its references and some annotations, so that it could be published and its benefit made widely available.
So, dear reader, if you wish to attend those gatherings, comprising more than 130 hours of audio recordings, then this book is before you.

تأليف : العلامة الأديب السيد محمد بن أحمد بن عمر الشاطري الشافعي ( ت 1422هـ ) . كتاب «الياقوت النفيس في مذهب ابن إدريس في فقه السادة الشافعية لمؤلفه العلامة الأديب الفقيه السيد أحمد بن عمر الشاطري.. كتاب انتفع به كثير من الناس في كثير من البلاد الإسلامية.
وقد طبع مراراً وتكراراً.
وقد قام ابن المؤلف السيد العلامة محمد بن أحمد بن عمر الشاطري بتدريسه في أماكن متعددة وأنحاء شتى.
منها درسه الذي كان مساء كل جمعة بمنزل السيد الفاضل طه بن محمد بن طه السقاف بجدة. وقد كان يحضر في تلك الجلسة العديد من العلماء وطلاب العلم والمستمعين. وقد كان شرح العلامة الحبيب محمد بن أحمد بلغة سهلة يفهمها المبتدي والمنتهي على السواء.
ولقد كان يفتتح درسه بعد البسملة والحمدلة والدعاء بسؤال الله تعالى الهداية للصواب والصدق في القول والإخلاص في العمل.. بذكر نبذة مختصرة عن الباب الذي هو في صدد شرحه وبيانه، وذكر فوائده، وحكم الإسلام من
تشريعه.
ثم يشرع بشرح الدرس من حفظه بأسلوبه البديع، مع تدعيمه للبحث المطروح بعبارات من بعض المراجع القيمة تتميما للفائدة، وإكمالاً لشرح الموضوع. وكثيراً ما كان يوشّح الدرس بذكر شيء من الطرف واللطائف الأدبية، والقصص والأشعار الهادفة؛ لترويح النفوس وتجديد همتها ونشاطها بكل هادف ومليح. ويطرز ذلك بذكر القضايا والأبحاث المستجدة في عصرنا وواقعنا، وربط الأحكام بها؛ لشحذ العقول، وتوسيع أفق الطلاب، وتعميق فكرهم، وربطهم بالواقع المشاهد.
تلك الدروس والمجالس النافعة تم تبييضها وتحويلها من أشرطة التسجيل إلى كلمات في طيات هذا الكتاب بيد تلميذ الشيخ المقرب السيد الفاضل محمد بن عبد القادر بن حسين السقاف.
ثم عرضها على مؤلفها بعد ذكر مراجعها وبعض التعليقات عليها؛ لأجل طبعها وتعميم نفعها.
فإن أردت أخي القارئ حضور تلك المجالس التي تزيد على مئة وثلاثين ساعة صوتية.. فدونك هذا الكتاب. والله المستعان
