Building one’s ability to write and speak Arabic fluently takes years of hard work and requires, inter alia, a deep study of works authored on Arabic Adab. Continuous studies of these works slowly creates in one the ability to express himself in a similar manner.

While some of our institutes do teach some classical Arabic Adab works and some students also study such works on their own, these are generally restricted to a handful of classical works, when in reality, exposure is needed to other works as well.

Bearing this in mind, Ml Abu ‘l-Hasan an-Nadwi prepared this book, wherein he collected passages from masters in adab over the various centuries and from different backgrounds, in order to build up the ability to understand and write Arabic as it was used in the different time periods.
It starts with passages from the Quran and Hadith, then goes through the centuries, right until the 14th century hijri. He also provides a brief bio of each adib, as well as explanatory footnotes for difficult words and passages.

After studying basic primers like Qisas an-Nabiyin etc, this work is an important step in the journey towards improving our Arabic.
