When I went to study in Mauritania, I asked around to find out who are the master muhaddithin in the country, under whom I could study hadith. The ulama I asked would often look strangely at me and say: You want to study hadith here, when everyone knows that you need to go to India to study hadith!

When I visited one of the most senior ulama of Mauritania, an expert in a wide-range of funun and a prolific author and requested to study under him, he asked me what works I had studied. When I mentioned the hadith books we studied in Madrasah, his reply was: I am the one who needs to study under you!

The proverb we hear from our teachers: Ghar ki murgi dal Barabar, fits our situation aptly. While we are blessed with hadith studies to depths unknown in most of the Islamic World, we sadly don’t appreciate them and don’t appreciate the expertise of our elders who devoted their lives to the Noble Ahadith. Our students often feel that it is the Arab Ulama who are masters in hadith. If only they saw how these Arab Ulama would sit at the feet of Hadrat Shaykh, Mawlana Yunus Jawnpuri and others!

This work is a masterpiece, authored by Hadrat Shaykh, as a muqaddimah to Hadrat Gangohi’s dars of Bukhari.
This detailed muqaddimah is an in-depth study into Imam Bukhari and his Sahih and is the fruit of the many decades Mawlana Zakariya spent with Sahih al-Bukhari. It is filled with fawaid and tahqiqat not found elsewhere.

This particular edition boasts the tahqiq and beneficial footnotes of Ml Habibullah Qirban, the devoted student of Hadrat Shaykh, who was chosen by Hadrat Shaykh to stay in Madinah Munawwarah.

It also includes a mu’jam prepared by Ml Habibullah, covering every work authored concerning Sahih al-Bukhari. To give you an idea of how many works are covered, he divided these works into 44 categories, with some of these containing over 100 works!


Beautiful, mulawwan, deluxe edition, in a thick volume of nearly 1000 pages!
