The great Arif, Abd al-Wahhab as-Sha’rani is well-known for his amazing works on akhlaq, zuhd and tasawwuf. This is one of the works authored towards the end of his life, as he realised that those involved in tasawwuf don’t seem to have acquired the many lofty qualities that he observed in the mashayikh.

In this beneficial work, he gathered 492 qualities that were present in the Arifin of his time; qualities that we all need to work on bringing into our lives.
These aren’t your common qualities like zuhd, taqwa, shukr etc, rather these are far more exact, applying to specific situations or people. After listing a trait, he discusses it in detail, sometimes bringing backup for it from hadith, the practices of the salaf and statements of the pious.
These qualities, while very specific, cover a wide-range of situations, from the manner of dealing with murids and neighbours to one’s relationship with Allah.

Filled with fawaid, the muhaqqiq worked on this book for 3 years, making takhrij of the ahadith and nuqul, providing bios for the a’lam and adding many beneficial footnotes.
